A Rainy Day at Home

Many showers, and six days with travel left us ready to stay home.

We planned our treks for the school and university holidays.

We shopped for used cars and made appointments to test drive them
tomorrow. Buying a car and ferrying it to North Island for weekends and
just renting a car are about break-even in cost. But getting groceries by
bus in the rain is not much fun. We will buy a car.

The car will help out on Waiheke and during North Island travels, but my
monthly commuting cost will still run close to $500 US each month. That is offset by
the lower rents on the island and the school for the kids. And the woman who changed
my dollars-US to dollars-NZ told me I should have been here in the old days when
the ferry took 1 1/2 hours to reach the wharf in Auckland--it takes 25-35 minutes today.

We've had wonderful chats with folks in the shops and on the bus.

During our Auckland visit, the bus driver spent 5-10 minutes asking us where we were going for the whole day. He determined that a day pass was the cheapest way to get us around and that took some time to do. No complaints from the riders as the bus sat there while we talked. No problem. This happened again and again as the bus moved along its route.

Tomorrow, car shopping.
